To help  students beat escalating tuition fees Queen Mary University of London has launched an Excellence Scholarship worth £3,000 a year.

The 3K hand-out is targetted in subject areas that the university consider  “essential to UK economic growth,” specifically, Science, Engineering and Modern Foreign Languages. To be in with chance of the award, which is worth £9000 for undergraduates, or as much as £12,000 for Queen Mary’s Masters in Engineering, students must achieve AAA in their best three ‘A’ levels (or equivalent).

The news will be welcomed by students from disadvantaged backgrounds who will also be able to add their bursary and any other scholarship they have been awarded under the Queen Mary National Scholarship programme, to the new Excellence award.

Professor Susan Dilly, Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning at Queen Mary, University of London said: “Queen Mary is keen to ensure that the best and brightest students from all backgrounds are encouraged to study at Queen Mary, and enjoy our excellent programmes on our exceptional London campus.”
