The British Science Association is providing scientists an opportunity to experience science journalism from the other side of the fence.

The Media Fellowship scheme is also open to practicing social scientists, engineers and clinitians, and is intended to create greater awareness and understanding of the workings of the media.  Successful applicants are expected to spend three to eight weeks on a summer placement working with press and web journalists and broadcasters.   

The project offers a unique opportunity for research Fellows and practising scientists to experiience and learn to work within the conditions and constraints the media while producing accurate and well-informed pieces about developments in science.

The  application process is now open to for summer 2011 placements that have previously been at The Guardian, Nature, BBC News and The Times.  Details about the scheme works and an application form, can be found on the British Science Association website. The deadline for applications is 1 March 2011.
